Queen Jennifer Young, 17, St. Marys

Jennifer, the 2005 Elk County Fair Queen is the 17 year old daughter of Lynn and Merlin Young of St. Marys. She is a senior at Saint Marys Area High School. She is a member of the Varsity tennis and dance teams as well as a member of the Ecology Club. Jenn has worked as a volunteered with special Olympics and is planning on attending Clarion University of Pennsylvania to pursue a masters in Elementary Education.

ELK COUNTY FAIR ROYALTY COMPETITIONS

The following apply to the Queen, Jr. Queen and Princess contests

CHAIRMAN: April Cush

DATE: Tuesday, August 9 th

TIME: Immediately following Opening Ceremonies

PLACE: George A. Swanson Memorial Stage

PURPOSE: To encourage the promotion of agriculture and to create better relations between youth and adults in both rural and urban areas.
1. All contestants must be a resident of Elk County , and have a parent or guardian consent if under 18 years of age.
2. Be able to attend each day of the fair.
3 Judging will take place of Thursday, August 4 th in the evening.
4. Reign of those crowned will be for one year.

FAIR QUEEN CONTEST

220800 Winner $300 (and accommodations at the state fair convention in Hershey) - $25 1 st runner up
1. REQUIREMENTS: Each contestant will be required to present a 3 to 5 minute speech on the topic "The Importance of County Fairs to a Community." The competition will also include an interview
2. Be at least 16 years of age and not over 20 years old by June 1, 2005.
3. Be single, never married, have had no children and not marry, or get pregnant during her reign.
4. Not be a former Elk County Fair winner, or state contestant.
5. Must be able to attend the State Competition in Hershey , PA in January, 2006
6. Queen must make at least, 8 public appearances during the year, (parades, farmer's market, speaking at clubs etc.) to receive full award.

JR. QUEEN CONTEST

220802 Winner $25 First Runner up will be announced
1. REQUIREMENTS: Each contestant is eleven (11) years of age, and not over fifteen (15) years of age by June 1, 2005. Girls may wear any style of dress.
JUDGING: Contestants have a five (5) minute interview with judges, and give a two to three minute speech on their favorite thing about the fair. 

PRINCESS COMPETITION

220801 Winner $25 First Runner up will be announced
1. REQUIREMENTS: Each contestant is seven (7) years of age and not over ten (10) by June 1, 2005.
2. Contestants will have a 5 minute interview with the judges .
